Finally, I'm talking about this even though it's months overdue. Eh, whatever.
It was my first concert and it was my favourite band so I definitely enjoyed it. Hell, I had still having post concert depression (it's not so bad now, it just feels nostalgic). Of course, the concert experience was complete as I went with my friends.
I'm going to break this into 3 parts: Pre-concert, During the concert, and Post-concert.
PRE-CONCERT
I woke up quite early and I was willing to be up at that hour which was 6:40ish? Like a typical teenager, the first thing I did was to check my phone and I got a message from Summer reminding me to bring my concert ticket. Then I went about doing my stuff at a slow pace– I'm a slow riser. As always, I suck at time management because I always overestimate my ability to get ready, I left the house in a rush and I was later than that I thought. And the concert venue is at Sentosa– a 50 minute journey to the place. Just so you know, I also had to deal with the working adults during rush-hour, not fun.
I salute Summer for being there at 7:30am and she texted that there were people in the queue. We later found out that they came at 4am or so. And I thought I was early.
Once reaching Sentosa, I was a little lost because I didn't know where the queue was. I tried following the picture guide that Summer sent me but I failed. Giving up, I decided to call her and I found the queue. Yay!
When I arrived, I saw Summer and Sarah waiting in the queue. Then Jacqueline came after I did. There's nothing much to talk about waiting in the queue. After Jacqueline came, Summer's friend, Aisha came. I was waiting for Fran to come because she told me that she'll meet me in the morning. (Spoiler: she came in the afternoon because of sleep)
While the two pairs went off walking around, I was left alone (not that I mind) and I started reading Franny and Zooey by J.D Salinger– it was the thinnest book I had so I brought that along. However, I did felt a little awkward at time– then again, when wasn't a time when I don't feel awkward. They did come back to join the queue once in a while– I don't blame them for leaving, at that time, it was so fucking hot, my skinny jeans and my skin were becoming as one back then.
We were sitting around, feeling quite bored and warm, until Sarah texted Summer her selfie with Matty Healy. We were hyperventilating at that point. I mean, who wouldn't? We found him walking around and he was carrying a Waston's plastic bag (that's one of Singapore's chain drugstores). Summer and I managed to talk to him. It was a miracle that I even spoke because in most cases, I would be just internally screaming while staying mum. He was really nice and we asked him whether it was alright for us to take a picture with him. He said sure or it's fine– I don't even know because at that time, everything felt so surreal.
When I took my picture with Matty, not only I was feeling very happy but I was quite self conscious. Why? Like I said earlier, it was so fucking hot and obviously, I was sweating. Here's my train of thoughts: 'I hope I don't fucking stink. What if I stink? Fuck. Is this real life? WHA?'
He told us that he had to leave and he promised (his words, not mine) that he would try to meet us after the show.
When Matty left, I was like, 'Did I just meet Matty Healy? What just happened? WHA? Is this real life?' Again, the same train of thoughts as before ran through my mind. I was quite speechless because what are the odds that I would meet the lead singer of my favourite band? To be honest, I was quite sure that I wouldn't be able to meet any of them but there it was. It was amazing.
Pikachu looks better than my face but hey, it's Matty! Rocking the man-bun btw.
After a 1000 years, Fran texted me saying she was Chinatown station– she was reaching the venue. And like me, she doesn't know how to get to The Coliseum. So I went to get her from Vivo. Summer, Aisha and I went to Vivo while Sarah and Jacqueline took care of our stuff. At the same time, we helped them to buy t-shirts because apparently, they weren't selling merch at the gig we were at. And do we want to go home with sweat-drenched tops? I don't think so.
So, we made our way to the monorail– I'm not going to walk back to Vivo in that heat, hell no. Not only Singapore is hot, it's also humid. We don't have the dry-heat thing here. And guess what, while we were walking to the monorail, we saw the entire band walking. I can't. I can't even now, I can't even then. (I don't even know whether that sentence was grammatically correct)
The first person I saw was Adam and based on my observation and his body language, he was quite shy compared to the rest. (This is not an actual fact, it's totally based on observation) They were escorted by people wearing black (they're dressed in black from head to toe) – I'm guessing it's people from Now/Live or they were people from RWS. It could be both since later we found out that they went to USS. Summer was just waving like a normal person then a lady who was guiding them around, grab Summer's fingers. Calm down lady, you don't need to grab anyone's fingers. Summer managed to have a short conversation with George. George's pretty cool and nice– hell, everyone's pretty cool and nice.
Reaching Vivo, I met Fran at H&M where we bough a change of top before leaving the place. We walked around for a bit because there's air conditioning in Vivo and I was not going to leave that place before I had enough AC.
Waiting in the queue was pretty uneventful until one guy came up to Fran and I (we were the only ones at the queue) and asked us whether we could let him into our queue because he was waiting for his friend to arrive and didn't want to wait alone. We had a slight dilemma because we felt sorry for him but it wasn't our call to make since it was technically Summer's queue– she was there at 7:30 so she gets to call it her queue. So he gave us his number and told us to tell him what was the verdict because I told him that I could only give him an answer after I called Summer. (I saved his number as Dude That Wanted To Join The Queue) I called Summer and told her about the situation and she said, "Suck a dick" or something along those lines. Then she asked whether he was cute. I wasn't too sure, he was decent looking alright and determining whether a person is cute is highly subjective. This is shallow but we probably might have let him in if he was cute. Shallow like a puddle of water. To quote Fran, "We are all shallow, just varying the degrees of how shallow we are." That's deep.
I texted the dude saying that he can't because Summer said no and I further explained that if we let him in, other people would be asking us to let them in since we let this guy in. Basically it's the principle of things. Then he replied that it was alright because his group of friend were coming to join him. So much for only one friend eh? Then we rationalised that if he wanted not to wait alone, he could've gone to any group, why us? Because we were at the front of the queue. No surprise.
When Fran and I went to the toilet at Hard Rock Hotel because we had to pee and it has air condition unlike the one that was located near the queue. While walking back to the queue, we saw the backdrop at the stage. I wanted to take a picture of it but we were found out and were chased off by the security guard.
Oh yeah, Durga came with her group of friends and asked whether they could join the queue but we said we can't give her an answer because like I said earlier, it wasn't my queue.
Around 4ish or earlier, Aini came! The three amigos are together, hell yeah. So we pretty much spend our time just sitting around talking. Also, the band played Heart Out during soundcheck and we got even more excited despite my nonchalant demeanour. A lot of people walked passed the queue and asked what were we queueing for, we just said it was for a concert. Those people who asked are usually middle aged people, I don't think they listen to The 1975.
Before the doors are opened, everyone were standing, I felt so suffocated because of the heat and the lack of ventilation of air. Durga joined our queue because Sarah said that it's either she joins us or she sticks with her friends. And Azra came as well– before that happened.
The queue before they opened the doors.

When the doors opened, people ran, including me. I managed to squeeze my way through before the cut the line from moving forward. I stopped halfway, noticing that Fran, Aini, Azra and Durga were behind. They told me to just go as they would catch up later.
I skipped bag check because I didn't have my bag with me as we put our bags in the lockers. I caught up with the rest and we got the barricade motherfuckers!! The feeling of being in front is so good because after everything, this is what I was here for.
At the barricade!!
So we waited for another 1-2 hours or so for the band to be on stage. In the midst of waiting, they were playing really good music but the group of obnoxious boys behind us were killing my vibe. I was rolling my eyes and blocking them out because they are not going to ruin this for me.
Me pulling a Jared Leto while I took a pre-concert selfie with Fran and Aini.
DURING CONCERT

When the band came on, that's when everyone started pushing us. The crowd was wild. I was so fucking excited, it seemed so surreal. Like I'm actually watching them perform live and it was not through a screen. It was real and it's still hard to believe I saw them live.
The band was amazing– everyone was on point. They sounded really good live. Everything's just so good. Trust me, even I don't dance (and I can't– 'because she way out, I've never seen her dance moves– dancing like "she way out"'), you can't help but dance to the songs. It was so fun.
Fast songs like The City, M.O.N.E.Y, Milk, You, So Far (It's Alright), Talk!, She Way Out, Settle Down, Girls, Heart Out, just makes you want to just keep on dancing and you feel free. Slow songs like Me, Fallingforyou– you get the feels. (How articulate)
And whatever Matty was saying about Singapore's heat, I totally agree, he was talking about how hot it was and he doesn't know how we live with it. I ask myself that question everyday. It was quite funny when he talked about our weather doing terrible things to his hair (his hair was on point)
He truly cared about the fans during the concert, he told the crowd twice to move back as people in front which includes were dying out there. When he did that, he stopped show, saying they weren't going to perform if the crowd doesn't stepped back. My friends and I did but we don't see anyone else doing it who were around us. Also, he took a picture of a girl before she left the venue because I think she felt like fainting– that's nice of him. But seriously, a couple of people left the pend because they felt like fainting. Hence the need for the crowd to make some space or everyone's going to faint due to the heat and lack of ventilation.
Matty’s hair so poofy and just amazing thanks to the humidity here in Singapore. Ross was adorable with his really oversized white shirt. Adam is so cute yet shy. I can’t see George but he’s chill at the back. I wished they put him at the front a little more so we can see him.
My favorite parts of the concert were the harmonizing at Heart Out, when Matty was belting at the end of the last verse of fallingforyou, how they started Sex (sounds wrong but whatever), the starting of Menswear– the whole song actually, of course the crowd favourites: Girls, Chocolate, Robbers and Sex. Also, when Ross walked off the stage for a while, Sarah shouted, ‘BYE ROSS!!’ and Sarah’s voice is really LOUD. And he of course heard her and waved back at us. All the songs were amazing live, they were so fucking phenomenal. PHENOMENAL. Like blew me away. I wanted to cry in the middle of the show because I felt like I’ve been waiting all my life to just to go to a concert of my favourite band with my friends and enjoy the music and the performance– was kind of overwhelmed with all the emotions. It's so good. I've been saying for quite a bit. HAHA!
I'm not going to talk about the bad parts of the concert– it wasn't the band's fault. It was mostly the crowd's. I just hope that it wasn't too bad that it would just deter the band from ever coming back.
POST-CONCERT
After the concert ended, we were so thirsty (the literal one) and were in need of water, asap. McDonalds had a long queue and every where we went was closed. We walked back to Vivo only to find that Coffee Bean and Starbucks were open and we were forced to buy $3.50 mineral water. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Once we drank the water, it was so good.
When I got back, I felt really good and went to do my stuff before going to bed. And that concluded my concert experience.
I'm sorry that this is a long ass post– then again, sorry not sorry.
