Ed Sheeran– 14.03.15

Unlike an actual concert review, this is more like my recount of the whole thing. If you want to read my concert review go here. Shameless self-promotion, I know. Read it, don't read it, it's up to you, I don't run your life.

I just want to say that Ed Sheeran is an amazing performer– he sounded so good live. Unlike The 1975 concert post (if you haven't read that, go read it if you got nothing else better to do) where my emotions were all over the place, my emotions were quite controlled this time round. And I only felt one emotion which was either content-ness (I know this is not an actual word) or happiness. I remember smiling a lot during the concert. Being a fan of Ed for almost 4 years, watching him perform live was one of the best feelings ever. I can't compare this concert to The 1975's because they are very two different musicians– other than the fact that one is a solo musician and the other is a band. But both are things that I would remember for quite some time.

BEFORE CONCERT

The concert so happen to fall on a Saturday and my friend, Fran's birthday. I've church on Saturday so I went to church before I met my friends: Fran, Kenneth, Summer, Azra, Sarah. Fran brought her sis, Summer brought her friend, Sara, and Sarah brought her boyfriend. All of them attended the concert with us.

Reaching Star Vista at around 1pm, I was not only hungry (I went immediately after church so I had no lunch), but also thirsty. Met Fran and her sis first before meeting the rest. After a while, Fran and sis went for lunch on their own while I had lunch with the others. Actually, it was Kenneth and I at first when I was having chicken noodle soup and bread at Cedele, then Summer and Sara joined us. We talked a bit before meeting the others because the merch stand was setting up. And who can resist concert merch even though they're broke.

The thing about the venue being held at The Star Theatre and The Coliseum, The Coliseum has an actual queue that people start queuing early in the morning (this includes me– queued for 12 hours for The 1975) and The Star Theatre, there's no definite queue until like 6:30pm and our group was the first in line. Haha!

At the merch stand, I bought a programme booklet while Summer and Kenneth bought the wristband, Fran and her sis bought the programme booklet and snapback. The only reason why I buy merch is because it's like a token to remind me that I went to the concert (also the pictures and videos as well). Well, waiting is a drag so I'm going to fast forward to when we enter the theatre. Also, Kenneth's friend whom he referred to as Neh came to join us– just a quick note.

When we got to our seats, we were alright with it, it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be but it isn't front row. This is why I kind of preferred that this concert was held at the Indoor Stadium to The Star Theatre because– standing pend. I think the reason why PCD this time round wasn't as hard hitting as The 1975 is because I was at quite a distance from the stage while The 1975 gig, I was so near the barricade. Nonetheless, the PCD is still there.

I digress, we initially thought we could run to the stage but to our dismay, we can't. :( They set up separators for each section of each category. The thing that annoyed the most of us is that we paid the same amount of money as the first few rows but our seats aren't as good. Now, the good part is next– the concert.

DURING THE CONCERT

When the lights dimmed down, we all knew that Ed was going on stage. And thus began all the feels as he started off with 'I'm A Mess'. Everyone started screaming, Fran and I were screaming as far as I know. Let me just say that I was also a mess when he got on stage. Halfway through the song, it just hit me that I was seeing Ed Sheeran live. LIVE. After 4 years. I got teary eyed because all the emotions. After 'I'm A Mess', he transitioned to Lego House. I think I'm just going to post photos before getting to my favourite moments.

I apologise if the quality isn't that good. I think the highlights of the show were when Ed played the guitar like badass at the bridge of 'Bloodstream', where the crowd and him started singing the bridge of Tenerife Sea', when everyone raised their lighters (flashlights of smartphones) during A Team. At the bridge of Tenerife Sea, everyone was so connected to the performance and I felt a very warm feeling. Like when the Grinch's heart grew 3 sizes– what an analogy. A Team was because of nostalgia's sake because that's the first song I heard from Ed. Ah, memories. And four years ago, I was 16 and now I'm closing to 20 with each passing day.

The way Ed interacted with the crowd was so good, like he really knows how to work the crowd. It's just a very good feeling, hence me smiling a lot during the concert (or my face would be a resting bitch face).

The crowd was so cooperative unlike the one for The 1975 gig which also made the concert a quite enjoyable one. Even at the end of the show, when Ed left the stage, we kept singing until the lights came back up.

POST CONCERT

There's nothing much to talk about after the concert when everyone left for their separate ways and I felt so happy. Hope that Ed returns to Singapore for another show in another tour.
