So 2014 is almost at its close, which brings many people to treat New Years Eve like a time of reflection and a time for them to set goals for the coming year. That includes me. Haha! In this post, I would just talk about the highlights of the year, the ones that stood out the most for me during this year. And these are in no particular order.
The 1975 concert in Singapore on 22 July 2014

That's quite the obvious one isn't it? Haha! It was my first concert and the good thing was I went with my friends which made the experience even better. Plus, it's my favourite band, it's just the cherry on top of this amazing sundae. (weird analogy but oh well) I could still remember when they announced that they were coming to Singapore, I was like, "R U SRS?!" Because I don't really expect them to come to Singapore for a concert that soon. Of course I was happy. And queueing up at 8am was totally worth it. We got to the fucking barricade and we could see everything up close. The 1975 were amazing live and if weren't for the rather sucky crowd, everything would be pretty much perfect.
Halloween 2014 with my class
Spooky times. Haha!
Halloween is a time when my class goes all out with our costumes for the Halloween event in school. This year, I was Lydia Martin from Teen Wolf and since it's Halloween, I had fake blood over my neck and on the either right or left side of my face. The night walk was alright but the most important part was chilling while eating pizza. They had a dancefloor but it's totally not my scene. It was fun overall but I was so tired by the end of the night.
Sentosa/Picnic Time with the girls (basically any time I hang out with my friends)
These happened recently (the picnic was two days ago) so they are the ones I clearly remember. And they are different from our usual activity (which is going to the cinemas to watch movies) but we had a lot fun with each other's company and food. Most of the time, it's just us talking about stuff and making jokes here and there and eating. It was just a very laid back vibe that I enjoy.
Getting through 2.1 of Polytechnic
That semester was one of the toughest shit I had to go through academically. I had meltdowns towards the end of it. I was so happy that I got through that because I've never felt so pressured in school before. Not even for O Levels. Like during the O Levels, I was concerned but I hadn't lose much sleep over it unlike during this period. Going through this and managed to make it out in one piece showed me that yeah, things can be so shitty at times but you'll survive. Eventually. I know that my internship during year 3 is going to be much worse (I've commitment issues)
Learning that not everyone is the same wavelength as you but that's okay
For a quite a while in polytechnic, I tried so hard to be on the same brain wavelength as most of my classmates because I don't want to feel like an awkward shit when I'm around them. After a while throughout this year, I kind of just accepted the fact that I may be awkward around them from time to time, and that's okay (although at times, I do want to punch my face because I say the stupidest shite). Not everyone you meet will just 'click' with your personality. These things take time– at least for me.
19 is a weird age
Turning 19 this year wasn't really a huge thing but to me, it's sort of stands out. Like I'm not a teenager yet I'm not an adult because I've not hit big 20. Plus, it was a weird age because in Singapore, I'm already legal to drink and smoke since the legal age to do all that is 18. I don't smoke and I rarely drink. The only time I really had alcohol was on my 19th birthday where my friends brought me to a tapas bar to celebrate it. And I had like 2 drinks max. Drinking is something I rarely do.
Aside from that, my poly friends really surprised me this year. I wasn't expecting anything from them but they threw a surprise party for me (that's before my actual birthday). That's really nice and sweet of them. On the actual day, I celebrate it with my family and went out with my friends later on. It was quite a chill time.
I think that's all I could remember for 2014– at least these are the ones that stood out the most.
Happy New Years Ever everyone!!
